The magnificent Chateau d’Hauteville near Vevey overlooking Lake Geneva has been home to the Grand d’Hauteville family for two and a half centuries. Since its early days, the family has had ties to the United States including revolutionary period connections to Benjamin Franklin,. Frederic Sears Grand d’Hautville fought on the Union side in the American civil war and later married the granddauther of Alexander Macomb, hero of the War of 1812. Their descendants eventually returned to Switzerland to reside in the Chateau.
